This is Alex. He is one month and one day old. Alex was born with Hydrocephalus. This occurs when excess fluid builds up in your brain, most often because of an obstruction preventing proper fluid drainage. Hydrocephalus occurs in approximately one out of 500 births. At two days old, Alex underwent surgery to release the fluid surrounding his brain and spinal cord.
Today, he has a heart monitor because if his chin touches his chest it will might cut off his air because his head is still so heavy. Other than that he is a healthy little boy! His mom and aunt tell me there the is a slight possibility he will have another surgery at the age of three, but now that thought it far from their minds. Alex is just one of the beautiful babies who fill our heart with love the moment they come through our doors of Infant Crisis Services.
